Remember the McDLT? It was a McDonald’s burger designed with special packaging. The premise was that the hot would stay hot and the cold would stay cold. I.e. The burger and processed cheese would stay warm and the lettuce, tomato and special sauce would stay cold because they were physically separated. According to Wiki (and every one knows that knowledge by consensus MUST be real)…
The McDLT was sold in a novel form of packaging where the meat and bottom half of the bun was prepared separately from the lettuce, tomato, American cheese, pickles, sauces, and top half of the bun and both were then packaged into a specially designed two-sided container. The consumer was then expected to finalize preparation of the sandwich by combining the hot and cool sides just prior to eating. The company discontinued the sandwich in 1990 to appear more environmentally friendly as it moved away from polystyrenepackaging which was integral to the McDLT “experience”.
But I have digressed. The real reason for this post is keeping your life free of negative influences. The McDLT just illustrates my premise…that there should be a natural separation between certain things. The hot really should be separated from the cold when it comes to burger construction. Who the heck likes wilted lettuce and carry-over-cooked tomato? Such it is with keeping yourself healthy emotionally/mentally, spiritually and physically. If the negative is always in contact with the positive, you end up with certain aspects of your being that ain’t so good.
I believe that you need to keep the negative influences minimized. If all you ever get is a negative input, you will eventually provide a negative output. It is crucial to keep external negativity at a distance…for your health. Keep the negative negative and the positive positive. It is impossible to eliminate negativity from your life. Just look at what happened in that transporter incident from the episode The Enemy Within…Kirk was transported into two distinct halves…the good half and the evil half. Positive and Negative. Yin and Yang. Pre-2008 election and post 2008 election. Oh. Anyway, the point is that one cannot function without the other, just as a battery that has two positive poles won’t light your flashlight.
The key is balance. If you are around people who constantly transform everything into something negative, relive their negative past constantly or just act like a pesky pessimist…that attitude will rub off on you…and it will cause all sorts of nasty things to happen. Heart problems, marriage problems, financial problems, etc. But if you are surrounded with a good mix of positive folks…good influences…you might just be able to achieve that balance that years of bodily contortion and yoga has not delivered.
Give it a try…take a single day of the week and say that you are going to surround yourself with positive influences…say that you are going to not say negative things yourself..and report back here with your findings.
