McCullouch Road

Why doesn’t McCullouch Road connect Dean Road to Alafaya in Orlando?  Look at this pic:

Gap in Road

See the missing link?  I have lived in Orlando for many years, and I have never figured out why McCullouch Road was not extended to connect Dean Road with Alafaya?  What are the benefits?  For one, reduced burden on University Blvd.  For another, easier access!

I am guessing that funding ran out and there was not sufficient money to build a bridge over the Little Econ.  Maybe it is protected land.  But Alafaya certainly goes over the Little Econ!  Any other reasons why the road is not connected?
